Each of the ten episodes looks at one (or several closely related) mammal groups and discusses the different facets of their day-to-day existence and their evolutionary origins. All the programmes are of 50 minutes&#8217; duration except the last, which extends to 59 minutes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The series was produced by the <a title=\"BBC Natural History Unit\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BBC_Natural_History_Unit\">BBC Natural History Unit<\/a> in conjunction with the <a title=\"Discovery Channel\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Discovery_Channel\">Discovery Channel<\/a>. The executive producer was <a title=\"Mike Salisbury\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mike_Salisbury\">Mike Salisbury<\/a> and the music was composed by <a title=\"Dan Jones (composer)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dan_Jones_%28composer%29\">Dan Jones<\/a> and Ben Salisbury. It was later shown on <a title=\"Animal Planet\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Animal_Planet\">Animal Planet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Part of David Attenborough&#8217;s &#8216;Life&#8217; series, it was preceded by <i><a title=\"The Life of Birds\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Life_of_Birds\">The Life of Birds<\/a><\/i> (1998), and followed by <i><a title=\"Life in the Undergrowth\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Life_in_the_Undergrowth\">Life in the Undergrowth<\/a><\/i> (2005).
